A typical Bank Holiday day with its chilly winds and torrential rain may have kept some people indoors but others lined the streets in their thousands to cheer the annual Pride Parade thorugh central Manchester. This year we decided to stand more toward the end of the march, at the corner of Princess Street and Whitworth Street, and that was a mistake we won't repeat again.
We saw more of the back of the floats and processioners than anything and some of the professional photographers and stewards took up position right in front of us spoiling our view, and stayed there, as you'll see from the photos we took this year. So maybe it was that that took the shine off the parade for us this year - it certainly seemed to lack the sparkle and 'pow' of previous years. In fact the phrase that came to mind as the street sweeper followed the end of the procession was 'they've gone more for quantity than quality this year' - which is shame, and possibly unjust. Hopefully others thought better of it, and next year we'll certainly make sure we're nearer the start!
